Section One

Downloading the APK from the official source.

The official APK is hosted on the platform’s own website, under a stable URL. Third-party APK mirrors are not authorised. The most common source of a malicious Cricplay APK is a third-party mirror that ranks in search results. Verify the URL bar shows the platform’s own domain before you tap download.

The download, in order

Open the platform’s official website in your mobile browser.
Navigate to the APK download page. The link is in the footer or in the help section.
Confirm the URL begins with the platform’s domain and the path includes the word “apk” or “android”.
Tap the download button. The browser will warn you that the file is an APK; confirm.
Open the downloaded file. Android will prompt you to enable install-from-unknown-sources for the browser. Enable it only for the install window, then disable it.

Expected file size

The official APK is roughly 60–80 MB depending on architecture. A significantly larger file is a sign of bundled malware or unwanted advertising SDKs. A significantly smaller file is a sign of a stripped-down impersonator.

Version

The APK version visible on the download page matches the latest version published on the platform’s official changelog. If the version number on the download page is older than the changelog, the APK has not been refreshed; wait for the platform to refresh the URL.

Section Two

Verifying the package signature.

Every official APK is signed with a private key held by the platform. The signature does not change between versions; only the contents change. A signature mismatch is a sign that the APK has been tampered with or that you downloaded from an impersonator.

Hash check

The official download page lists the SHA-256 hash of the latest APK. Compute the SHA-256 hash of the file you downloaded (any file-hash app on the Play Store will do this). If the hash matches the published hash, the APK is authentic. If the hash does not match, delete the file and re-download from the official URL.

Permission check

Before you install, Android shows the permissions the APK will request. A Cricplay APK requests camera, storage, and notification permissions. It does not request access to your contacts, your location, your microphone, or your SMS. If the permissions include any of these, the APK is impersonating the platform.

Package name check

The official package name is shown on the download page. The package name begins with the platform’s domain reversed. If the package name on the install screen does not match the published name, do not install.

Section Three

Installing the APK safely.

Android requires you to enable install-from-unknown-sources before you can install an APK. The setting is per-app, not global on modern Android. Enable it only for the browser you used to download the APK, then disable it after the install completes.

The install, in order

After the APK has downloaded, tap to open it.
Android prompts you to enable install-from-unknown-sources for the browser. Enable it.
Confirm the package name matches the published name. Confirm the permissions are limited to camera, storage, and notification.
Tap install. The install completes inside 30 seconds.
Open the app, sign in, complete KYC, set a strong password, and disable install-from-unknown-sources for the browser.

After the install

The first time you open the app, it will ask for camera and storage permissions. Grant them. The app will also ask whether you want to receive notifications; grant or deny based on your preference. The platform’s notification settings can be changed later in the app’s settings menu.

The app will not ask for access to your contacts, your location, your microphone, or your SMS. If it does, uninstall the app and contact the platform’s customer-care team through the in-app route.

Section Four

Keeping the APK up to date.

Side-loaded APKs do not auto-update from the Play Store. You will receive an in-app notification when a new version is available, plus a banner on the lobby. Tap the banner to download the new APK. The install path is the same as the initial install; you do not need to uninstall the previous version.

Cadence

Most platforms push a new APK every four to six weeks. Major releases (table redesigns, KYC refreshes) ship quarterly. Bug-fix releases ship as needed.

Reverting an update

If a new APK causes issues, the platform keeps the previous version on the download page for at least 30 days. Scroll to the bottom of the download page; the previous-version link is there. Download the previous version and install it on top of the new version; Android will revert the app.

Section Five

Why you should never side-load from a third-party mirror.

Third-party APK mirrors are the single largest source of malicious apps impersonating rummy platforms. The mirrors modify the APK to include code that intercepts SMS one-time passwords, captures KYC documents before they reach the platform, or silently subscribes the user to paid services.

The modified APKs look identical to the official APK on the install screen. The malicious behaviour does not appear until after the user has signed in and completed KYC, at which point the malicious code has already exfiltrated the documents and the SMS intercept is in place for the next OTP.

The single safest rule is the simplest: never download the Cricplay APK from anywhere other than the platform’s own official website. If a search result points to a third-party mirror, navigate back to the official website and download from the page the website links to.

Section Six

Older versions and the version history.

The platform keeps the previous APK on the download page for at least 30 days after a new version ships. The previous-version link is at the bottom of the download page, beneath the current version. The version history is below the previous-version link.

When to use an older version

Use an older version if a new release ships a bug that affects you specifically and the platform has not yet shipped a fix. The most common reason is a regression in the table UX that breaks a specific flow you rely on. The older version is a temporary workaround until the next release ships.

How to install an older version

Download the older APK from the version-history section of the download page.
Verify the SHA-256 hash against the hash published next to the older version.
Install the older APK on top of the current version. Android will revert the app.
Disable install-from-unknown-sources for the browser after the install completes.
Wait for the next release. The auto-update prompt will appear in the app when the next version is available.

Section Seven

Permissions in detail.

The platform’s APK requests four permissions at install time. Below is the purpose of each, what data the permission grants, and how to revoke it after the install. The descriptions are editorial, not contractual.

Camera

The camera permission is required for KYC document upload (PAN, Aadhaar) and for the selfie match step during first withdrawal. The camera access is local to the app; the platform does not stream from your camera. The data goes only to the platform’s KYC backend.

Storage

The storage permission is required for KYC document upload (selecting an existing image from your gallery) and for screenshots you may share with customer care. The storage access is local to the app; the platform does not read other apps’ data.

Notifications

The notification permission is required for table invitations, tournament reminders, and withdrawal confirmations. The notification access is local to the app; the platform cannot read other apps’ notifications.

Network

The network permission is implicit on Android. The app needs internet access to communicate with the platform’s servers. No special handling is required; the permission is granted by default.

Revoking permissions after install

You can revoke any of the permissions above in Android Settings » Apps » Cricplay » Permissions. The app may not work correctly if you revoke a required permission; the platform will warn you if it does.

Sideload safety

What the APK path looks like, end to end

The APK path exists because Android allows the user to install a package from outside the Play Store. The path is not a workaround for the platform; the path is the way the operator distributes the build they have signed. The reader who installs an APK from the operator's official domain gets the same build a Play Store install would have delivered.

The risks of the APK path are concentrated in two places. The first is the source: an APK downloaded from a third-party mirror, a torrent, or a forwarded WhatsApp link is not the operator's APK. The second is the package signature: an APK whose signature does not match the operator's published fingerprint is a tampered APK. Both risks are addressable, and the page addresses them.

The hash check, the permission check, and the package-name check are the three verifications a reader should run before they tap install. The hash check is the fastest. The permission check is the most useful: a rummy app that asks for SMS access, contacts access, and location access is a rummy app that is asking for more than it needs.

Once the package is verified, the install proceeds the same way a Play Store install would proceed. The reader grants the requested permissions, opens the app, and signs in. The first launch is the moment to confirm that the build version matches the operator's published version. If the version does not match, the reader has the wrong package.
